When we were expecting our daughter, my wife had this insatiable urge to eat bananas. Such urges are inexplicable during pregnancy. They range from ice-cream to some fruit or even the urge to avoid something. So much so that the very sight of it induces nausea. Being a plumber in Chelsea has some benefits, as I am not limited to plumber Chelsea services, but could also travel to nearby towns for repairs. In other words, it was easier to get whatever my wife demands even from the nearby towns.

A few days into this routine and a friend suggested that we opt for the ones grown on an organic farm. On doing some checks we found that it was just the thing for the mother and baby. Organically grown food is substantially superior to those grown in the conventional manner. The plants themselves are healthy and this is passed on to the people who consume them. Besides, organically grown food also tastes a lot better compared to the conventional ones. It is free of contamination from health harming chemicals like pesticide, fungicide and herbicide. These chemicals, absorbed by the plant, result in an upward incidence of diseases with their exposure to toxic chemicals.

Organically grown food does come at a higher price when compared to the conventionally grown food. However, it is a small price to pay when you consider the far reaching implications of ingesting such food. The chemicals will certainly affect your body and the results will show up some time or the other. The cost of medical treatment will by then be many, many times what you would have had to pay extra for the organic version. It might well be worth pondering that the illnesses prevalent today were unheard of a century ago when organic farming was the norm. Sure, there were illnesses and death, but not on this scale and not the killers of today.

Organic farming is considered more expensive then battery farming, but as the Enigin scam busters initiative points out, it can actually save the farming community energy and money. To the consumer organic produce translates into a more expensive option then the various ‘saver’ deals that supermarkets offer. However all the farming community need do is to look more closely at their energy plans in order to compete.

How can this be achieved?

The Enigin scam busters initiative was devised by Enigin Plc a renowned energy efficiency company that has been in existence long before words like ‘conservation’ and ‘environmental’ became part of the modern lexicon. Their goal is to aid individuals and companies in reducing energy consumption without inhibiting performance and promote more environmentally sound energy technologies. Their strategy is a natural fit for the organic farming community.

The scam busters initiative is designed to guide consumers away from the various energy rip-off schemes that have cropped up in the past decade. Since reducing our carbon footprint became an election for consecutive governments, many less-reputable companies have used it as a quick money making tool to lure in unsuspecting consumers – including the farming communities.

What does ‘scam busters'do?

Applied in a farming context, the initiative could help reduce energy costs by making consumption highly visible to the community. The Eniscope allows a business or person to monitor the individual energy consumption rates of various machines and equipment. A recent study of the European Commission and its specialized organs dealing with agriculture has revealed a disturbing truth about the state of food production around the EU. The Commission has expressed general concerns about the quality of foods produced in the Union – organic production is decreasing in quantity presented to the markets because of the increasing importance of factors such as prices and demand.

The first factor is the price of production – since organic food needs to respond to certain requirements before being branded as such, its production is getting more costly to producers because of the increasing prices of fuels. The work involved in the production of such products requires a huge amount of inventory that needs fuel – genetically improved products, however, can be treated with special agri products and thus be raised more easily. As the costs for producing organic foods increases, the overall price for production has increased double the percentage of inflation because of other influential factors – less and less farmers are ready to engage in organic farming thus presenting an opportunity for larger organic producers to take advantage and increase the prices themselves along with the inflation rates.

However, because of the high prices organic products have increased tremendously. It is surprising how people are ignorant about the amount of chemicals they imbibe every time they eat something grown the usual way. That’s because people conveniently forget that a whole lot of chemicals are used at every stage of the produce. There’s no getting away from chemicals unless organic farming is followed.

This is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity while controlling pests on a farm. Organic agriculture methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced in some countries. It sustains the health of the soil, people and the ecosystem. Organic foods are popular these days. Every home has at least few organic products. When we go to supermarkets the first thing we grab and load into our trolley is anything and everything that is organic. We don’t mind paying those extra pounds for an organic product. The food products that are grown without the use of synthetically modified fertilizers are called organic.

An organic farm is a certified farm which does not use herbicides, pesticides, sewage sludge and bioengineering. Organic farms are different from conventional farms. My friend works with London plumbers and he and his grandfather have an organic animal farm in the country side. I was amazed to see so many varieties of hens, ducks and even cows. All the animals are left loose in the farm and they looked happy. A happy cow produces meat which tastes the best and only a happy hen can produce tasty eggs.

Researchers agree that there are some food products that have to be bought from organic source, these are milk, meat, cherries, nectarines, celery, strawberries, bell peppers, apples, coffee, peaches, kale, grapes, pears, potatoes, tomatoes and leafy greens. Organic foods bypass the dangerous chemicals that are used in conventional farming. Organic foods are tastier and more nutritious than conventional food. It has more amounts of vitamin C and minerals like magnesium, iron, calcium and phosphorus than the conventional food. Organic foods are also rich in antioxidants which prevent cancers and heart diseases. So next time when you visit your nearby grocery store don’t hesitate to pay that extra price for organic food. If you are living in one of the colder regions of the globe then you will surely understand the delight of seeing fresh, green and crunchy vegetables. This is mainly because in these regions most of the food is bought in the frozen state, since vegetation is very sparse. I live in a place which has more number of colder months than summer months, so we still have some sun. And the summer is the only time when we actually see some fresh vegetables. I guess it is due to these long cold winters where eating meat is common and economical, that I get really excited when is see the fresh vegetables especially in the retail shop fitting displays. It feels like I am adding up to my health and getting all the vitamins needed by my body. For example it is said that green vegetables are good for better eye sight.

But are the vegetables that we have really healthy and good? Or are they simply good looking, chemically produced and harmful for health. One of the major questions that is needed to be asked before buying vegetables from the market today is, whether what we are buying is organic or not. In case if it’s not then we might feel healthy while having these food but may actually doing the opposite to our body. Organic crops are produced without the help of the harmful chemicals that are not only directly harmful for our body but also for our environment. In many cases washing the vegetable would not take the chemical off. For example tomatoes which have a very thin outer covering would absorb in some of the chemicals when sprayed on them.

We might have to pay a higher price for our health, but there is no price for good health, it’s priceless!

When we go to the supermarket the moment we see “organic” we immediately stuff that product into our trolley and head to the next aisle. Supermarkets only tell us where the products physically come from and not the exact details of how it is farmed. Many of the organic farms these days don’t supply to the stores rather sell direct to the public either through their own shops or sell through framers market. When we take a trip to a country side more often we see the conditions the chicken, pigs and cows are kept and decide whether its free range or organic enough for our standards. Only when the cows look happy and healthy we can eat our steaks with a clear conscience and the meat will taste even better. Animals that are stressed out produce tougher meats once cooked. A happy farm produces a happy and a healthy meat.

One of my friend lives in Lebanon. He wanted to start an organic farm and he needed a huge property. So he contact real estate Lebanon and bought the land. Now he is has a successful business.

The origins of organic agriculture were more down-to-earth. It all started in Britain during 1940. The main motto was to improve the richness and stability of the soil by restoring its organic matter and avoiding synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. These ideas have kept the organic movement against intensive farming and chemical-based agribusiness. Research shows the demand for organic foods is increasing. Consumers believe organic food is safer and healthier than conventional foods. So let’s go green.

Being organic isn’t just about the food you buy in the supermarket; you also have to think about the products you use in your own garden. It would be pretty hypocritical to spend a fortune on environmentally friendly carrots, only to get home from the supermarket and cover your lawn in chemical pesticides!
But unless we want to spend the entire summer weeding our lawns and flower beds, then we have to find some organic way to help keep our gardens neat, tidy and pest-free – and banish the chemistry set to self storage. Believe it or not, many of the most common bugs that can reduce a lush garden to shreds also have a strong aversion to many common kitchen ingredients! You can rustle up a natural pesticide in your own kitchen, safe in the knowledge that you won’t be doing the soil or the eco-system any harm.
Unsurprisingly, many of these natural pesticides feature garlic prominently. As anyone who has woken up next to their partner the night after he or she was tucking into pasta or pizza can tell you, garlic will drive even the most devoted lover away! So if pests like aphids have the choice of a garden that smells of garlic or your neighbour’s garden which only smells of, well, garden – no prizes for guessing which one they’ll pick to pig out on.
You can make your own garlic oil by crushing up cloves and soaking them in mineral oil, leaving them to soak overnight. Once you’ve mixed this concoction with distilled water, it can be put into any garden spray and used liberally, on plants, lawns and even tree branches; so long as you can reach them safely, of course…

Organic farming vs. Conventional farming

The practice of growing crops with natural procedures, without making the use of synthetic pesticides, harmful chemical and herbicides is called Organic farming. Farmers who grow crops organically are not supposed to use genetically modified seeds but are needed to make use of procedures like crop rotation and inter cropping to keep the soil healthy. To prevent insects from eating the crops they should use insect eating creatures, not the harmful pesticides stored in diesel fuel storage tank.

Organic food is much healthier and environmentally friendlier than non organic food. One of the key benefits is that in organic farming, farmers do not use synthetic pesticides, which not only damages the earth but also people’s health who consume the food grown with the help of these pesticides. Organic farming used Crop rotation for better yield, this way the soil is naturally regenerated and it gives a better yield than planting the same crop in the same soil every year.

There are many who support the conventional methods of farming. They have quite a few arguments to make against the widely accepted idea that organic farming is better. This is because some of the latest pesticides are able to target pests specifically and accurately. This can help in getting higher crop yields. With organic farming there is a fear that the moulds that are allowed to reproduce without control can be harmful and could spread diseases to humans. Organic farming is a bit costlier than conventional farming, meaning the developing countries may not be able to afford it.
